What is this and what might be wrong?

    The soil seems to be staying too moist. Not sure how, it's out back on a covered patio in Arizona with 100+ degrees. Limited direct sun.

    What is it? And any idea what's wrong?

    Top looks like it has heat damage. I'd move it to a cooler spot, dump it out and repot in fresh soil if the existing material seems to have gone bad. Using a replacement pot that has unobstructed drainage (no saucer) might improve results.
