    Sorry, forgot.

Small leaves appear in spring and are yellow, they slowly turn green for summer and then it sheds them in the fall.

Love the color! Possibly related to the Forsythia - not sure. Await eagerly from the green thumbs/pros.

I would love to see clear close ups.
Are those leaves in your pic or flowers?

When I magnify, I see a few features like those of Berberis thunbergii - if you are interested in getting one for yourself yellow forms of that species will provide the same general effect. Even if that is not what the mystery actually is.

    Interesting.
Ok thanks colour is not from flowers...just golden leaves.
Judging by the large stones that surround it, it appears to have a thick branch and a huge trunk, yet is squat.
It looks to be old. Maybe it has been pruned?
I think I can see a gate way behind it, to the right.
Could you revisit and go to the gate and try to get a close up pic to show the leaves?

Found this on www.....Probably a stupid suggestion.....Quercus virginiana Grandview Gold.

I have my suspicions that it isn't... Quercus virginiana is a USDA zone 8, Edmonton is a USDA zone 3 or 4 at best.

Berberis thunbergii 'Monry' (aka Sunsation) is golden in the spring (at least, maybe longer?) and in the Edmonton market.

There are no berries or flowers of any kind. Just the leaves.

That doesn't mean it is not a flowering plant (one that is meant to flower), just that it either has not flowered (yet) or you missed seeing the flowers that appeared when you were in Regina. Same story for fruits.

This is the closest picture I could get.

I owned the house for several years, no flowers.

Quercus virginiana..Daniel has ruled that out as it is too cold in Edmonton.

    Still fascinating.,
    It looks large.
    Approx what size was it?
You have obviously left that house.
Can you revisit to see if shrub still exists..get clearer pics to show the leaves.

I have had a good look /I have really blown your pics up, zoomed right in...sadly still cannot see enough detail to give any id suggestions
    Sorry.

If it were Berberis sp it would be prickly and have flowers.
Berberis thunbergii 'Monry' (aka Sunsation) Discovered by Henry Eiler in Illinois and introduced in about 1985 by Monrovia Nursery. Has tiny leaves.

Maybe Daniel or Ron can help you further.
They have much more knowledge than I do.

Caragana arborescens? With the new photo at full size, the leaves can be seen (just!) to be pinnate.
