What is it, what is it? I can't wait!

I have a strange looking bulb coming up. It's got tulip-type leaves, but inside is a giant bud head that is shaped like a closed pine cone... anyone? I planted some really cool (expensive) bulbs last year, so I'm dying to see them! I didn't keep a record of what I put where, so it'll be fun to see where they all spring up.

How about a hyacinth? As long as we're still shooting in the dark? <grin>

 

It sounds like a hyacinth to me.

Do Hyacinths need to be taken out for the winter?

 

Nope. They're quite hardy and don't mind winter at all. They'll be back next year, though likely a bit less dramatic. They do tend to decline over time.

They're blooming here too. I wish I'd planted some. I love their fragrance...Heavenly!
