Seen in a friend's garden but without a label... evergreen shrub. The stem is red. Thanks for your help.
I'd lean more towards Arbutus unedo. Not familiar with Azara species, but the pictures don't look quite right to me.
We're not doing so well yet. Are there any flower buds? And can you post a photo of the whole shrub? How large are those leaves?
Doesn't look ericaceous to me. Azaras typically have a leaf-like stipule opposite each leaf along the stem. Maybe Escallonia, although one would typically see evidence of glands (some scale would be helpful, a close-up of the spent flowers, or a shot of the whole plant...)
