I have a sour cherry tree that over produced this year. Right after I picked all the cherries, the leaves started to die, and I notice amber colored sap on the trunk. This tree is about 30 years old. What should I do?

Has a pathogenic disease problem or other mishap causing twigs to blight off. Take samples to local Colorado Cooperative Extension office for diagnosis, if possible.

Gunk on trunk called gummosis, multiple possible causes.

If the whole thing's blighting off that's not too promising, if instead a twig here and there you should be able to step in and help it out. Depends on what, exactly is happening.
