Fall in the Pacific Northwest this year has been particularly glorious. This weekend I visited two different nurseries on two different days and drooled over Japanese Maples. On the first day I was rushing home with the concrete my husband needed for a post hole so I zoomed from tree to tree. On the second day, as I darted to trees, my trailing husband urged me, "Hurry up, I'm hungry. You promised me lunch." So these photos were quickly snapped using my phone soley with the purpose in mind of remembering what I saw once I got home. But I thought that maybe you'all out there would like to see, too. So here are some of the highlights. BTW, hover your mouse over the photos to see the names of the trees.
Winterhaven, Beautiful trees. Wish my local nurseries carried these trees instead of the usual bloodgood and crrimson queen. thanks for posting the pictures. xman
Beautiful. I'ts probably a good thing for me that no nursery around here is wise enough to carry such gorgeous trees (unfortunately, like xman, I rarely see anything but 'Bloodgood' and 'Crimson Queen') - I am not sure I could resist the temptation!!! Thanks for sharing. I do appreciate shopping vicariously. :)
Winterhaven, I live just north of you and am a major nursery rat. What nursery was this? I can't quite tell and I really want to check it out before all the the rains come and the leaves drop. Cirque
Wow some great specimens there. You are lucky to have a nursery that sells so many more mature trees near by. I wish I could find somewhere like that local to me - although I am not sure if my wife would be so happy. Yorkie
I've never seen so many varities in one place. See now where I live bloodgoods can even be hard to find which is weird cause they are usually really common but this year like none of the nurseries around here had them and if they did they looked like crap.
I know that I am truly lucky to live near not one but two nurseries that carry this level of Japanese Maples. Unfortuneately for my wallet, I've also found some local specialty nurseries within driving distance. Oh, and then people on the forum were so happy with their online tree purchases that I succumbed to temptation and bought an Oki Kasame from Topiary Gardens. I feel fortunate, my husband thinks I've gone completely bananas, and my wallet is empty.
