I recently got a copy of the Pocket Guide To Japanese Maples and to my surprise, theres no Ap 'Rugose'. I understand that there would have to be many volumes to show all maples but Rugose was in the third edition. To me, Rugose is one of the more UNIQUE maples that I have seen and one of my favorites. Almost black branches and the brightest scarlet Fall colors on any of my maples. I was just curious how they go about picking which maples will go into each edition. Regards Cirque
Not a great (or timely) answer, but I found a listing at "essence of the tree". Seems to be a higher end JM catalog which I get for some reason. Was just looking at the neat green bark of this one.http://www.essenceofthetree.com/products/list_search?fi_s_string5=rugose&fi_s_string13=&fi_s_string12=&x=0&y=0
Rugose is listed in the checklist, so apparently the name was accepted. I seem to remember at some point that the name was illegitimate. -E
