Your images are of Prunus x yedoensis 'Akebono', the daybreak cherry. In Vancouver, this tree opens its first flowers about two weeks after the first purple leaf plums (P. cerasifera cultivars) begin to bloom, which is typically around the spring equinox. This year, however, most flowering trees are about 2 weeks earlier than usual here. If I had a favourite tree (at least that wasn't a maple), Akebono would be it.
