Hi, I live in Melbourne Australia & have recently moved to a new house. In the past week magnificent pink pendulous flowers have appeared over the fence next door. The plant itself is in excess of 15 feet or 5 metres and has an almost bamboo look to it. Does anyone know what it is and if so how to propogate it. regards Ilana
Hello and welcome you will enjoy this list it is full of great info. Nice to see some one else from down under :) If you can a photo really does help. Is it a bush or a creeper. For the life of me I can't think of anything that matches your description out at this time of the year down here. Liz (Dandenongs)
How about Dahlia imperialis? In flower now in our NSW Blue Mtns foothills. Easily propagated from any cut piece of stem.
Also here Tony but the flowers are not pink or at least the ones here are not pink. Is there more than one colour . Mine are a sort of pale mauve when they come out. Liz
Thanks for all your ideas. I've tried loading the photograph again. I hope that this helps. regards Ilana
Yes tree Daliah. Just throw a bit of the branch on the soil and it will grow or get a tuber from neighbour. This is one of the easiest things to grow. Just make sure it grows in a shelterd spot or the wind will blow it down. I have just recently been getting rid of some of mine and they are growing right back again. Liz
Thanks so much for all your responses. Liz, when you say throw a bit of the branch in soil do you mean the leave sections? Do I plant them? regards Ilana
Ilana In my place if I leave a bit lying around after cutting it down it takes off. :)) Get some of the stem with a couple of notches where the leaves come out and bury it in some soil. I am sure it will take off. On the other hand see if you can get some of the tuber (root). Looks like normal Dahlia. If you have trouble let me know I have plenttttyyyy. Liz
