What did I do wrong with this tulip?

I started this garden http://imgur.com/0bjlqRU.jpg about a month ago. Everything in it is flourishing! Well, with the exception of that one tulip on the left... I know I can not save it this year, but if I find out what went wrong, maybe next year? I purchased these from a local market, they were not quite in bloom at the time. The dying one was the smallest of the three. Did I maybe just shock it? This was kind of just an experiment with a small garden box that I had laying around. I love my flowers, indoor and out. If anyone can confirm that this was just shock, or knows what I have done wrong - please let me know! Thank you to all whom have read this. Your help is much appreciated by all our plants and more so, my wife and I. Have a great day everyone.

Are you sure it's the same cultivar of tulip as the other two? The colour looks different, and so does the petal shape.... Barring this, it could be unhappy about the brick that's next to it.

I am certain that it is the same as the others. The "brick", which is actually a small rock, was added yesterday, upon realizing there was not much hope left for it this year. I will be taking the small rock out. It was the same color and shape as the other tulips, just a little smaller in height. This tulip in question, was always the smaller of the three. In any case, my main point is - that "brick" did not cause this. If anyone, or yourself has any other logical explanations, please let me know! I do appreciate your response and have to remind myself that you are posting in the interest of the flower :) Thank you very much! I hope you may have another idea!

I'd say that you just got a bum bulb. Runt of the litter. These things happen! Mildew or some other unwanted visitor. Hey---2 out of 3 ain't bad! Looks as if you have some lily action happening in your flower box as well.

Perhaps the pensive bloodhound knows more about the tulip than he's telling, eh?

Haha, I am not sure what your last sentence is in reference too. I read it to my wife to see if maybe she could help me decipher - but I can still only assume :) I do have some lilly action going on too, next year is when this box will really shine though. I was a little late in getting things planted this season. So I will just assume this guy may have been the runt of the litter and just be happy with what I have got going on! Thank you very much for your reply, this site is great and has helped me more than once, I will be coming back for sure! Have a nice one!

Reference to the dog figurine visible in photograph (to left, near tulip in question).
