I have a large diadora tree in the centre of my front lawn. There is quite a mound of needles that has accumulated over the years. My question is 2 part. 1 - do I need to remove the needles before planting? 2 - what plants will do well in an acidic and shady environment. I am contemplating Jacob's ladder and bergenia. If possible I'd like to stick with native plants.
