The first two plants were given to me and I just want to know what they are called. The first produces purple flowers. The fern-like plant was growing on my parents' farm in central Ontario. The other two I need help determining whether they are flowers or weeds. I planted some annual seeds in the spring but the label blew away so don't remember what they were.
thank you! I had a couple of cleomes 'rose queen' planted in that area last year. It looks like some seeds survived the winter. I never would have guessed the euphorbia was a weed, it looks so pretty!
I have found that the cleome will reseed every year. The first year I bought the plants and they did poorly but dropped enough seeds to sprout the next year. Ever since then they have come back on their own and the grow HUGE. When they are about 3 inches tall I move them to the back of my flower bed because they grow to be up to 5 feet tall and flower until the first frost.
This is most probably an annual weed (Euphorbia helioscopia or a similar species). So if you like them and if you stay away from their toxic milk sap then a few of these plants in your garden might not hurt because they always should be very easy to pull out even though they will produce lots of seeds, of course.
I agree about the fern. Looks like what I have... Athyrium filix-femina. Spreads easily, and pretty... I'd keep it if I were you!
