So i have a few vines i got from a friend, i have no idea what type they are and neither does he. in one are on one of the vines there were small white barnacle like... things? i suppose i want to say bugs. anyway there were hemispherical little things stuck to the vines, ranging in size from about 1mm to 5mm white with a black dot in the middle i pulled them all off of the vine and their undersides are dark reddish brown, some of them squished as i was pulling them off despite the small amount of force i was using.

oh i live in New York city, in an old apartment. i have never seen any bugs in the plants or soil since i have had them for about 6 months now i water and mist them twice a week.... not sure what other information would be helpful... i have seen one cockroach, but that's the only insect i have seen here.

    oh maybe describing the plant?

its actually pretty odd, some of the leaves are simple, some are divided into to and some are divided into three points, new leaves are light green old leaves are dark green, some of the leaves are smooth some have a very wrinkled texture. the guy who gave it to me says it flowers, but i have never seen one. i did have on bud once but it withered and fell off. it gets medium light, and seems to do fine with it, it has grown to the top of my lattice at about 11 feet. so a fairly fast climber, it shoots out long tendrils to grab on to the lattice with. not sure how else to describe it.

Well! Thanks for trying to help if you're reading.

    -Pete.

Scale insects. Sap-sucking aphid relatives, not good to have, and difficult to get rid of.

Dabbing each scale insect with a Qtip dipped in rubbing alcohol worked well on greenhouse succulents when I had that problem. Quicker, easier & less damaging to the plant than picking them off. Also worked on woolly aphids.

    ...just a suggestion.

If its Scale insects, remove it using a soft cloth or sponge dipped in insecticidal soap. Rinse with plenty of fresh water after washing the plant and use a good pesticide oil. Hope it helps.

The plant itself, based on you description, brings passiflora to mind....might want to compare via an image search.

Thanks everyone! things are looking healthy again. i do not think they are passiflora, i have had some of those in the past and the leaves are quite different, the blades are much wider and have a much stranger texture, sort of bumpy and they have been since it was only a foot tall.
