Identification: What are these purple blobs?

    Several of these purple blobs scattered in a small area of a tree trunk.
    Consistency similar to jelly.

    Excellent find - I love seeing these! Although I suspect we may have more than one purple species in our region, for the moment we are calling these relatively large and strikingly coloured jelly fungi - Ascocoryne sarcoides.

    Thank you very much for the ID.
    I searched for Ascocoryne sarcoides, and noted that it can grow to quite a big lump. I was lucky to find these very small and inconspicuous blobs.
    Great incentive to look harder.
