Hi Mani, a very old 'Ornatum' that has been very well pruned and shaped over decades. If you have a look on YouTube The Portland Japanese Garden you will see possibly the most photographed maple in the world. This is Ornatum. Watch and enjoy, I do often and the music accompaniment is by Giovanni Marradi, 'Shadows'.
Thanks D - you know everything!! :D. So, you think no acer grows naturally like this, they are all manipulated in some way? What about this one, for example: Pin on Zen garden
Lol I wish. Of course Acers do grow naturally and some of the most beautiful are in fact seedlings with no name. But in most of the Japanese and Japanese inspired gardens they are named cultivars, that have been shaped over many many years by experts in their field. If left alone Japanese maples can over the years look quite tatty tbh. But again that can have a wonderful look also. It does depend on who is looking at the tree and what pleases that person. Everybody is different.
