I learned the word "pectinate" when I tried to describe the arrangement of these leaves, but now I want to know the name of the fir that has these leaves. At Birr Castle in Ireland. I was a little behind the group, and was unable to get anyone to come back to look at it.

Tough to tell without more detail (e.g. were the shoots pubescent or not). I'll hazard a guess at Abies nordmanniana subsp. bornmuelleriana, but wouldn't be surprised if that wasn't right.

Thanks, Michael. This is as close as I can get to shoots. I don't see any hairs.

Beginning to wonder about the possibility of in being Abies densa or A. fabri, the leaves are showing revolute margins in the new pic.
