    hello.

some neighborhood hoodlums stripped a 2' tall section of the bark nearly all the way around the trunk. a neighbor said she believes the tree will die. is there something we can do to protect the barren section?

    mark.

    hi, Michael.

at its worst, the damage is 4' in height. fortunately, the kids neglected to completely denude the circumference.

thank you for looking at this.

Looks bad, but not fatal. I'd not be surprised if you get some dieback in parts of the crown though.

that's of some comfort! i suppose we shall have to let this tree recover on its own.
