weird, red, hard, bug like thing?

    I found this thing once before in my garden. It has a hard shell. The tip of it moves in a circle. The first time I found it, I accidentally crushed it and it is full of thin white "goo".

    It is a pupae of some sort. Couldn't tell you what kind though.

    It looks quite a bit like some of the cutworm pupae that I regularly dig up in the garden. Do a Google Images search of "cutworm pupa" for some examples.
