oops..........at any rate, i planted a weeping willow near a new septic tank a couple of years ago and i do not want to be on the end of a 'i told you so' re the roots routing into pipes etc................so.......my question is, if i keep the willow pruned short and lean.........will the roots cooperate?.......ie will they stay as wide as the branches or will they continue to spread?.................thx for your help, char
No I think you will continue to have root problems. We have willows here that have invaded waterways and seem to survive even when the waterways are not flowing. Lands departments are slowly removing them which is a bit sad as they are pretty but we don't need trees in the environment that remove precious water. I am currently waging a battle with a thing sold as a "wisteria tree" which I think belongs to the Robinia (sp) trees. It was cut down 4 years ago and it is still sprouting and blocking realm drains. I noticed the other day there is a bit of growth right next to the tank even tho it is under a verandah. Back to cutting and poison. By the way this tree was about 20 feet from tank. Liz
