I have seen the hardiness zone for the Weeping Giant Sequoia listed as both a 5 and a 6. The area where I wish to plant this tree is 6 miles north of Charlevoix, Michigan, on Lake Michigan. and is identified as zone 5. I have not seen this tree in Northern Michigan, but on a recent visit to Seattle fell in love with it, and would like to plant one in my courtyard. Will this tree survive in my area? Please advise. Thank you, Carolyn

If you're close to the lake shore with plenty of 'lake effect' snow, it'll succeed; if not, probably not. The main point is the roots are more sensitive to severe cold and need lots of snow insulation to protect them.

There is a large Giant Sequoia (not a weeping one) at Manistee on Lake Michigan, so it is certainly worth a try.
