Our weeping birch has developed something strange, there is a heavy white , waxy substance dripping down the trunk from approx 3 ft from the ground and pooling at the root. At the moment the leaves still appear normal. What is this?

    Hello Audrey,

A picture would help with the diagnosis.

unfortunately, did not take photo, but it had the appearance of a huge, thick candle drip down the trunk and pooled at the bottom. It has now dissipated, the birch looks none the worse for wear, in fact seems to be growing like crazy.
