This first one volunteered in a pot of soil in which I grow a beet for the munching pleasure of my cat. She seems to have stayed clear of it so far, but I'd love to know what it is, whether it will poison her when she does eventually take a bite (in which case, off with its head!!!), and if it will have pretty flowers (in which case, it gets to move.) It only developed this odd, rippled pinnate habit after about three leaves; the cotlydons were single and entire. I've checked the underside of the leaves, and it doesn't seem to have spore capsules, which rules out ferns.

The second is some kind of succulent that volunteered in my rose starts. I separated it off into this old coffee mug (yes it has drainage holes in the bottom) and it took off like you wouldn't beleive. That cuppa weeds has been growing from the original sprout for just under a week.

    Help?

Oh no, it's cardamine - looks like C. hirsuta? Off with it's head!!!

And I've never seen a purslane do that before - I thought it was a groundcover. Very cool.

Leaflets on hirsuta seem to be more rounded and less ondate; on flexuosa they've almost got an oaky feel to them, and look narrower.

At least according to the photos in your link.

ps congrats on you 1000th post!
