Did you keep any of the plants around to see how they would "grow up"? I kept a specimen going in my garden and it turns out to be what I *think* is Amaranthus retroflexus. It turns out to be a bit of a monster. See pictures here on the forum in another thread: Possibly Amaranthus retroflexus...
