This plant grew up in front of a Rosemary bush (in Coquitlam), but I want to make sure what it is before pulling it out.
    Is it a weed?
Or did one of my wife's flowers seed itself here?

I've used the "Seek" app on my smartphone, but it is no help in this case.
It gets as far as identifying the Class: Dicot.
    But that's it.
    Attached are a couple photos.

Any help identifying these plants is much appreciated.

    No, it's not flowering yet.

I was leaning toward Goldenrod but, if so, it's late flowering compared to other Goldenrod in the area.

    An update, and photos.

    The plants are flowering now.
The "Seek" app on my phone has confirmed the species as New England Aster.
Quite pretty. And since they are late bloomers, they are important to pollinators.

(An aside: is there a way to rename this thread "New England Aster"? I am thinking ahead, hoping to distinguish this thread from all the others with generic titles.)

I have renamed the thread, but generally people don't like that (I used to get criticized for doing that). For one thing, maybe someone will come along to say it's really something else, then it needs to be renamed again.
From https://forums.botanicalgarden.ubc....et-good-answers-to-your-plant-id-questions.6/, we recommend that you distinguish your question from all the others by saying in the title something about what the thing looks like that you want an ID for. You can still distinguish the thread, but no need to change the title. Next year you might not remember the name anyway, but you might remember that it looked weedy and had whorls of lance-shaped leaves.
