I have a small 12 x 6 add on greenhouse to help get my plants through the winter without my having to live in a jungle in my house. I have a lot of hibiscus, orchids, hoyas, ferns and kalanchoe. Where I live there are a lot of minerals in the water, VERY hard water. I set up a watering system last year and by the end of winter most of my plants were coated with a white powder of minerals. It seems worse on the shiny leaves. I can only think this is bad for the plants. Any suggestions? I have read do not use soften water. RO water ends up being too expensive with so much waste water. (I have to pay for my water)
    Thanks

collect rain water and store it somewhere where it won't freeze. any water you use from your own tap should be allowed to sit at least overnight so the excess chlorine can dissipate. watering at soil level will eliminate the coating on the leaves.
