Does hardy water lily blooming effect the tropical water lily growing and blooming ?

I am having a small pond in which last year a tropical water lily bloomed excelantly.
On that time it was the only water lily in my pond. At mid winter I cleaned the pond, changed the soil to a heavy soil and planned in addition to the tropical water lily also a hardy water lily.
now it is spring time in our place and the only blooming flower is the hardy water lily (Ihave to stress that the blooming flower is beautifull and breath taking) - the tropical water lily seemed to be affected from the hardy water lily - is it possible ?

    thank you

It's more likely that the change in soil has affected it. Tropical waterlilies require much lighter soils (which you likely had perfectly in the first year) while temperate ones require heavier soils - it has to do with what ends up in the water where they grow naturally.
