Haven't seen the actual plant but it sounds as if it is a large hedge. The wasps and flies love the cutting I have on my porch. Please help identify.
Looks like Hedera helix. Common name common ivy. Later it will have black berries that the birds will love! http://www.botanik.uni-karlsruhe.de/garten/fotos-hassler/Hedera helix BotKA S12.jpg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hedera_helix
Yes: Adult phase of ivy. This is what the creeping phase turns (partly) into when it thinks it has gotten into a good spot. It is actually possible to root cuttings of this adult growth and have it grow on as a flowering shrub, without more creeping growth being produced (by that propagule).
Could be Hedera hibernica (Atlantic Ivy); very difficult to tell from H. helix. Note that both Atlantic and Common Ivies are listed as invasive weeds in Vancouver, so you may want to consider removing it. Over here, they're highly valued natives ;-)
