Identification: WAS TOLD it is Bird Of Paradise?

    I am not sure if this plant is a Bird Of Paradise. And if it is how to take proper care of it.

    Is there any way you could post a larger picture of it? That one's so small that I can't make out any detail on it, so it's impossible to ID the plant.

    Thanks! It looks like a bromeliad to me, more than Strelizia or another of the Zingiberales, but it could also be a Heliconia that I am not familiar with.

    Compare - This is Bird of Paradise (GIS)

    Do the leaves arise from a central rosette, or do they grow on stalks?

    Flower structure indicates it likely to be a Billbergia.

    After just spending most of the day scouraging through bromeliad photos for myself I believe that Ron B would be correct.

    Bilbergia for me too. My mother had one very similar to that.

    Thanks for the help and information. I found my plant on the fcbs.org/images/billbergia site. It is a Billbergia amoena var carnea.
