    hi all,

i've got this awesomely beautiful echeveria a week ago and when i first bought it it has perfect leaves, but now, some of the leaves started to turn red and grow little wart-like bumps, others, particularly the lower leaves has dry grey edges, with one of the leaves turned yellow and flat and wilted on the smaller branch. i've recently moved it inside as the wheather is starting to get cold, but it still remains in a well lit spot.

just wondering if i'm doing anything wrong?????

the white stuff...is it 'fluffy'?? almost like a cottony look to it??

if so, that's mealy bugs. treat with cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol and rub over the spot...the bugs will die immediately. use fresh swab and dip again and then rub all over the base/stem/stalk and all the leaves - make sure to treat crevises very well - so that you get any eggs that may be present. treat again in 10 days or so (it's impossible to get all the eggs the first time 'round).

the leaves will yellow-up before shriveling due to the mealies sucking the juices out of them.

the plant should be placed somewhere by itself so as not to infest any other plants.

the leaves turning red could be the normal thing for this particular variety - some do go red when they get the proper amount of sunlight. it could also be a burn due to being moved into full sunlight too quickly and/or because it's a variety that shouldn't be in full sun.

sorry, i am not good with echevaria id's - hopefully someone else will be able lend a hand with that.

the white stuff on the edge of the leaves are dry, dont think it's fluffy. the white allover is just the oil marks on the plant and flash camera kinda brings it out. so still not sure....

i was making note of the white spot right in the center of the picture...on the bottom of that one leaf. the leaves turning yellow along with that white bumpy/warty spot leads me to believe there is an infestation

the white coating on the tops of the leaves is normal...that one spot doesn't look like the norm - looks very much like a bunch of mealy bugs having a party. and your description of 'warts' is the biggest tip-off :)

do you have a magnifying glass?? the things are small and you're new to it, so, using something to magnify the view would be helpful...or if you can take a macro pic of it (and post it), that would work, too. just a warning if you use a magnifying glass - they're pretty durn ugly and have lots of legs!
