Chiton: This 'wandering meatloaf' creature has a rare mineral in its teeth - CNN
I've been made aware of this by the Sherman's Lagoon comic strip - Comics - The Washington Post.

Here's a similar article, in case the original one disappears:
Teeth of ‘wandering meatloaf’ contain a mineral found only in rocks | Science News

As a former teacher, I couldn't resist sending this to my kids for their "Educational Moment of the Day". Whether they read it or not . . . ?
I thought it was very interesting and love the nickname, Wandering Meatloaf.

This is a very common chiton in local waters, especially in Johnstone Strait and the other channels of the Inside Passage. Here, it is usually called the Gumboot Chiton, which is also a name used in Wikipedia.

My son tells me that Wandering Meatloaf opened up for The Allman Brothers on their ‘73 tour. That's one remarkable chiton!
