I was in Cuernavaca Mexico in early February. There were many walls everywhere covered with an ivy like plant with thick leaves. A local said it is a kind of laurel. I would like to know what it really is.

    Senecio mikanoides?

If that doesn't happen to be it you may have to come up with alot more information to have it click with someone. Most plant species are tropical; 'laurel' is a loosely used term. Some laurels commonly cultivated here are Laurus nobilis, Prunus laurocerasus and P. lusitanica. In a tropical area there could be a great many "laurels".
