Volunteers Needed for Eye-Movement Study on Japanese Pruning Techniques

Researchers from UBC Botanical Garden and Japan’s Chiba University are collaborating on a study entitled, “Cross-cultural Analysis of Eye Movement During the Inspection of Several Types of Landscape Treesâ€

We are seeking interested Western-raised adults to volunteer up to 60 minutes of their time to participate in this eye-movement study on how Japanese pruned plants vs. Western pruned plants are “seenâ€.

Participants must be:
- between the ages of 18 and 59 inclusive
- raised in a Western country (preferably, but not exclusively, Canada) since the age of 3
- able to see a distance of 1.5m and recognize objects without eyeglasses or hard contacts

If you complete the study, we’ll compensate you with a Greenheart Canopy Walkway Pass to use or give to a friend (value $12 CAD).

The study will take place between September 26 and October 2, 2011 inclusive, from 9am to 5pm.

Location of the study will be in “Gail’s Abode†aka the Panabode aka the Botanical Garden Scholar’s Retreat at the old entrance to UBC Botanical Garden.
