Volunteer tree?

    A couple of these plants have arrived in my too shaded cedar hedge.
    Location: Ottawa, Ontario
    Anyone know what they are?

    Looks like Prunus. Considering where this is, it's probably a bird deposited pit or a root sprout from a nearby tree. I couldn't tell you what species from the foliage.

    Thanks smivies,

    I have grown a couple of different types of cherry over the years but they have quite different leaves.
    One obvious possibility is Nanking Cherry (Prunus Tomentosa) as my neighbour is growing a bunch. Their leaves have a similar texture but a quite different shape - see attached.
    I have also included another photo of the mystery plant, this tame taken with a flash.

    I guess I could wait for the plant to fruit ;-)
