Volunteer plant in Victoria

    Vigorous, 3-4 feet tall.
    Ideas?

    Is it deciduous or evergreen?

    Can you see how the plant is coming out of the soil (ground)

    Pretty sure it is deciduous. Grows much like a Hedge Maple, aggressive.

    Looks exactly like a Acer campestre.
    What made you doubt, that this is not a Hedge maple?

    Initially thought that the leaves were too deeply cut

    I'm not saying it's not Acer campestre, but all those deep sinuses and pointed lobe tips sure would have confused me.

    Plantnet.org lists such results in the first position, when searched by the first photo of the OP:

    I'd say, these leaves are very similar.

    It's a Field Maple Acer campestre, though one with slightly odd-shaped leaves, perhaps a seedling from a cut-leaf cultivar.
