I found this vine in a park in Chanhassen, Minnesota. It has these strange, prickly-looking orbs growing out of it; but they're not hard spines. The fruit (?) is easy to touch, and the biggest one I saw was about the size of a quarter. If it's not some crazy, invasive weed I'd like to try and slip it and plant it in my back yard. Thanks!
It's wild cucumber, Echinocystis lobata, a widespread native species. I rather like them, both due to childhood memories of goofing around with the seed pods, and for the fragrant flowers!
It looks like Wild Cucumber. We have them in Ontario. See link below. http://ontariowildflowers.com/main/species.php?id=1
