I recently moved into a new home and the yard was overgrown with vines. They're probably very common, but I know nothing about them. I just want to know if someone can tell from these pictures if there's still something I can do for them. Also, some of the trees have some odd bark patterns on them...I don't know if that's normal or a problem. Please help!!
It is difficult to identify the plants you've photographed. If you see canes, and perhaps thorns, then you have a rambling rose: The picture showing the green leaves may be such. The plants are obvious hardy, and common. Going to your local nursery to look at the vine may help you identify plants then seem similar. Pruning just as Spring growth begins can help you to curb these sprawling plants. In general, leave the main and dominant stems, and cut back the laterals and remove old and dead wood. Once you have given shape to the plant stand back and watch the new growth looking carefully for flowers, and fruit that will help you determine more about the plant.
