The local postmaster gave me a cutting from a plant he has in the office. He thought it was an ivy of some sort and says it goes bonkers in a screened porch.

I agree with Marn, it's a Wandering Jew, possibly Tradescantia albiflora? Very easy to care for!

    Thanks to both of you!

That was truthfully my first thought, but I had never seen a Wandering Jew with that many leaves so close together! The leaves are so thick, they are almost on top of each other.

if it is getting really good sun it will grow like that .. i had mine getting late morning sun and it was so thick that it was hard to water .. i had to spread the vines apart inorder to get water in the pot instead of flowing off the leaves ..

As soon as my cuttings root and I get them planted, I'm going to hang it in my picture window (east). Thanks for everything!

lol.. shoud be rooted by now from when you posted this .. Wandering Jews are one of the fastest and easiest to root ..it is more like .. stick in water .. and 3 days later stick on dirt ..

it will also grow really fast .. they love the sun ..
good luck with it .. they are nice plants ..

I was gone this week, and you were right: they are rooted and ready to plant...except that I don't have a pot for it! So, they'll have to stay in water a bit longer until I can get to town to pick some up. Also have an airplane plant ready to pot.

I haven't had houseplants in about 10 years and now I'm just going hog wild.

by airplane plant you mean a Spider Plant ??.. those ones dont need big pots .. and they like to be pot bound ..thats when they will set off the babies .. they like bright sun also ..

oh and BTW .. watch out plants can be addicting .. i ended up with about 80 of them in my small house :)

Yes, I meant "Spider plant" (got the start from my boss & that's what she calls it).

Oh, I know how addictive plants can be as I had tons at one time (mostly received from funerals or cuttings from friends), all were in clay pots. Lost ALL of them in a 2 week span when the pots got a fungus. I didn't know what it was and by the time I found out, it was too late.

I'm up to 16 right now (a year ago, none) and my sister-in-law is going to give me cuttings of hers (her living room looks like a jungle).

it is great when you get cuttings of other plants .. thats how i got alot of mine .. my sis in law bought alot of plants and so did i .. we would share the plants :)

and when you do the rootings of these clippings .. be sure NOT to change the water .. once you get a good water going (meaning turning green) they love it .. just keep topping off the water .. never dump it out and start fresh .. use a glass in a sunny window and you could also add a lil fertilizer in it to start ... i have glasses that you cant even see through any more from algea .. :)
