Vine Flower ID needed.

    Wile i was stomping in the woods yesterday , on my way to try and get a few photos of nesting Herons i came accross this plant . I have the National Audubon Wildflower guide but i cant find it in it . So can someone ID this for me .

    Oh i forgot to mention this was taken in western Quebec.

    Looks like a Clematis alpina variety - ?"Frankie"

    That is a cultivar of an exotic (foreign) species. Unless the same one has naturalized (gone wild) in Quebec probably this is another species.

    So Ron your saying that this is not a Clematis alpina but probably some other native plant but in the Clematis species?

    Definitely a clematis, perhaps one native there (C. alpina is an Old World species).

    Ok so how about this for a ID Clematis columbiana . It grows on a vine and is found in North America. Let me know what you think :)

    I've seen that one out west a few times. Does it grow back there also?

    This is the first time i come across a Clematis vine in the middle of nowhere in the bush away from any trail . Im just guessing here but it realy looks like a Clematis columbiana .

    It's more likely to be Clematis occidentalis var occidentalis....it's native to that region, which C. columbiana is not.

    Thanks Smivies :) I think you nailed the correct ID . One thing for sure as all have metioned its from the Clematis family. Thanks to all that gave me a hand here . :)
