I've only ever seen two other plants like this in my Victoria neighbourhood. They are over 6 feet tall, growing in full sun. Has this gorgeous rain-chain like flower. The old broken stalks are empty like bamboo. A neighbour gave me one because he wanted to expand his lawn (strange, I know). Sadly the pics are not of my plant. Mine did not enjoy being transplanted--the leaves are all drooping--but I dearly hope it will come back next year. It's a stunning plant. Sorry only one of three images loaded.
Looks like Leycesteria formosa. http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=le...&source=og&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi&biw=1270&bih=501 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leycesteria_formosa
AKA 'Himalayan Honeysuckle', 'Pheasant Berry' and 'Chocolate Berry', the latter on account of its edible berries which when ripe (in this case dark brown and soft) or when dried in the cakyx-looks like a raisin-tastes somewhat of chocolare, though I'd suggest burnt sugar is more accurate. It will sprout well from seed, so ypu can simply plant a berry in the spring and you'll have lots of replacements. Worth noting there is a golden leaved form available as well...
