This Magnolia is so gorgeous about 18ft high and 12-15 feet wide at the top. I dont want to see it killed and must move it (may not be possible) or sell it. Any advice? D
Start by looking in phone book (under Nurseries) for local operations specializing in big trees. One of these might be willing and able to come and move it for you or take it away (probably to sell to someone else, sooner or later). Or you might be able to hire a landscape contractor to move it. Depends on how much it is worth to you, paying someone to dig it up, transport it to another location and replant it for you would involve some expense.
So what's it worth to you? If you only have a couple of hundred dollars, the quest may be pointless. If you have a couple of thousand, or more, then keep looking. Some arborists move them. My first pick would be an arborist. If it's moved on site, a crane may be handy. It's a matter of getting a good crate around the root ball, and securing it, unless you find a massive tree spade on a truck, and have room for one. Why don't you post a photo of the tree and the space around it. I could give you an idea of how long the prep-time would be. How many feet does it need to move?
Re: Updated: Finding Your Post Thanks for the response-I just found out that I will not be able to keep it on site. Therefore, I will have to find a taker for it. Will check with an arborist though-soon as I locate an available one.
This is the kind of service I am aware of operating in this area, http://www.bigtreesupply.com/index.php?page=Transplanting+&+Rescue&sub=Rescue
