Very interesting flowering tree

    Here is a twig from a flowering tree I saw. I have never seen such a thing before. The paper is standard school writing paper.

    The dark red is the leaves, which were just emerging.

    Any clue as to what this is? It is really pretty. I would like to see if we can get it for the courtyard in our apartment.

    In California it could be C. occidentalis or C. siliquastrum. And probably is one of those rather than C. canadensis. C. chinensis is also grown out here, and C. texensis as well.

    Quite a few highly conspicuous (when in flower), shrubby C. chinensis are appearing during recent years in Seattle yards visible from streets.

    Yes C. occidentalis that is exactly the one I saw.
