vegetable amaranth

    HI, I am looking for a source for amaranth seed to grow as a vegetable and also whether anuone in the canadian prairies has ever done so.

    Good Morning Thomas,
    Vegetable amaranth can be grown on the prairie with Zone 3 or higher if you can get enough heat. I have grown it in Edmonton and so have a few other gardeners. Several local seed companies like William Dam, Stokes etc carry A. tricolor seeds. The green ones are harder to find.

    PS. The common pigweed is also dilicious and easier to grow. You just have to harvest them when they are still young ie 4 to 6 leaf stage.
