I have just dug up a relatively small patch of grass in my backyard and was now considering how I should go about fertilizing the soil. I have heard about man made fertilzers over time making soil quality reduce and turn bad and was wondering if blood and bone fell into this category. The only other fertilizer I have is the substances which have accumilated in my compost bin. Obviously it would be ideal to use only organic matter to improve the soil however I only have a small amount of compost available.

So would it be alright to use blood and bone or will it be detrimental to the health of my soil?
