variegation again -- Butterfly vs. Beni Schichihenge

Hey guys --

I'm going to be buying several baby JMs over the next few days. I haven't quite decided on exactly which, but the group will probably include most of the following: Aka Shigitatsu Sawa, Ukigumo, Toyoma Nishiki, Goshiki kotohime, Oridono Nishiki, and Peaches and Cream.

My question -- should I also purchase Butterfly? I already have Beni Shichihenge. Is there enough difference between them to make it worth buying Butterfly as well? Or if I have Beni S., would Butterfly basically be redundant?

Any input would be welcomed. Thanks in advance!

 

'Butterfly' is a preeminent cultivar, one might instead look at it the other way around.

 

So you think I should have both? If I got Butterfly, which cultivar from my list would you leave out to make room for it?

hi i have batterfly and beni ,the first is variegated but beni have pink and more white beni is better ,but butterfly have a good autum coulor,and i not see this in beni .......

if your space is limited not buy butterfly.....

This is your decision

Space required by each of the listed cultivars is not the same. Butterfly will become large whereas Peaches and Cream stays quite small. Also exposure requirements vary.

Thanks! I can deal with exposure requirements -- I do most of my gardening in containers, and I have quite a variety of shade exposures to move the pots between -- but I would prefer cultivars that stay smaller.
