Here is a photo of my variegated seedling this year. It seems to get better with each season. I got it as under stock from the west coast a couple of years back. As I was potting the stock up I noticed just a slight bit of variegation on a leaf or two so I set it aside. I sure am glad that I didn't graft on to it. It currently resides in a Root Maker trade gallon and I am looking for a nice spot in the yard to plant it. It shows a lot of variegation, primarily yellows. What do you think? Does it resemble any cultivars that you know of?
There was a time back in the mid 80's through the mid 90's that two historically important nurseries for Japanese Maples in Oregon used a seedling 'Kagero' with very good results as an understock for many of their variegated Maples. The same understock was also used on several of their green palmatum forms as well. Jim
