I photographed several of these coralroots while hiking in Mt Doug Park in Victoria, BC. Could it be a Corallorhiza maculata variation? Does Corallorhiza maculata var. ozettensis occur in this area? Or am i way off (still new to plant ID)? The photos are of three different specimens, however there were at least half a dozen in one small area. Thanks for the help, Will
Hi, It wouldn't surprise me if variety ozettensis did occur on Vancouver Island, but I am away from my resources to look at it right now. If I remember correctly, the paper that published that name had a key to the varieties, but I won't be able to check it for a couple weeks.
In my opinion, it does bear a resemblance to var. ozettensis. I'm going to forward this along to a few folks and solicit some more thoughts.
Thanks so much for the follow up, Daniel. It's fantastic news it seems to be more abundant than first known. Regardless of its degree of commonality, this was still a very exciting find for me!
