I've had a large Urginea maritima (Red Squill) bulb for the past few years, anticipating an impressive, 5ft tall flower spike. For the second year, it simply produced many leaves, but no flower. It is a rather large bulb, about 7 inches in diameter. It is a "winter bloomer" in it's native Mediterranean environment. Here, in Michigan, it is dormant during the hot summers, then, in the early Fall, when temperatures drop, it begins to produce its leaves. It is kept in a full sun, southern exposure, site. Once temperatures start to drop and frost is threatening, it gets moved indoors and placed in a full sun spot next to a sliding glass patio door. It grows well, just no flower stalk.

If I am not mistaken, the flower should be produced first, then the foliage...similar to an Amaryllis bulb. I am wondering if, even at it's seemingly large size, it is still too small to produce a flower.

Anyone have experience with getting this bulb to flower? Any suggestions for next year?

Hi, I've also had one for a few years, growing indoors (too cold here) under good lighting, but have never had anything much besides leaves, but that's ok, it still gets 'wow' looks from people!
