Urgent, I need assistance before it is too late. All my melon plants seem to suffer suddenly, their leaves die. I wonder if it is, based on what you can see on the three photos - a lack of water, too much water, or light (despite that I gave three strong lights to the plants). I water the entire pot with around half a liter of water each evening. Due the ground area of the pot is relatively small (that one which keeps water which goes through the soil), often after watering the tiles around the pot have water on it. But still, I don't know if it is over-watering - please see the photos. Thanks a lot.
Over-watering and not enough sunlight! You should only be watering when the soil feels dry to about 1" down (the depth of your second knuckle, when you stick a finger in the pot.) Let them dry out and keep up with the grow lights (what lamp type are you using? How far away? For how long each day?) and they should recover.
Wow! Thanks a lot, Lorax! I will stop immediately the watering and apply your advices. - Light: 4x Energy-Saving Light Bulbs (identical to 130 W traditional light bulbs) - Duration: 24/7 - Distance: 5 cm to next Leafs - Heat: Bulbs remain Touchable, they couldn't Burn the Plants
OK, your problem might be the bulbs. Most cf energy-savers are not full-spectrum light, which is what most plants want to stay healthy. However, there is good news! Osram makes CF energy-saver bulbs with a spectrum equivalent to sunlight. However, the fact that you're in Jamaica begs the question: why are you growing melons indoors?
Because I don't owe my own land (yet), ha ha ha! Anything that's outdoors, there are plenty who would just steal the fruits or vegetables during the nights. That's a very common syndrome here in Jamaica. Even fruits on tall trees are not save from thieves, who then sell their stolen fruits to the numerous street vendors here. Can you give me a link to those Osram light bulbs, I wouldn't mind to order them online. Or at least, if you would know the type name of those Osram light bulbs, that would help me, too. Thanks again very, very much!
