Does anyone know the name of this tree? We came across it on the north side (Kohala?) of the Big Island.
Welcome lhclemns. Looks like Kigelia africana. Common name Sausage tree. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kigelia http://images.google.com/images?q=K...1I7SUNA_en-GB&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi
Kigelia, perhaps? Ooh, too late! Beat me to it, Silver surfer. But nice to know that I found it and that I was right! Saw a nature program a while back that showed giraffes munching on the sausages.
Thank you! We're here on vacation with friends and having fun identifying plants. This one had us stumped.
If you search the internet pages come up on kinds of trees seen in Hawaii. Bookstores, gardens and libraries there also have information. http://www.hawaii.edu/sciref/hawaiigrdns.html
