Hello first time poster, please let me know if more details are required.
I found this while running in mountains of east TN and have no idea what it is. The plant I found it on was bushy and had small oval pointed green leaves, maybe a type of fern? But had no other blooms or buds of any sort on it, however outstreached across the path was this bright orange bulb that looked very disparate from the fern. It originally looked very similar to the state in photo, except the orange pods were originally fuller and shiny, before I placed it in a container and let it dry out and presumably die. Can someone please assist me in finding out what in the world I'm dealing with here?

    Thanks,
    Sam

Euonymus (not a parasite). The texture of the seedpod makes me think it's probably E. americanus.

Ahh excellent! I guess it was simply the only bloom currently on the plant, or at least the only one I saw. Thanks so much, and thanks for the welcome!
